Shijiazhuang Railway Station, Hebei - an impatient Junhong and her sister Meixin have just spent 3 hours with me on a train from Beijing to visit their home province to apply for a marriage license.

Just in time for the train back to Beijing we were told our tickets did not entitle us to a seat. However on paying the conductress a further 10 rmb each 3 comfy seats appeared.

 This visit to the notary office was an essential step towards Meixin's visa - we had to send certified copies of our marriage licences to the embassy. Given constraints on time and money Meixin and I decided to spend our brief honeymoon in the hotel with Meixin's phallic cactus. We even sent out for food.

We married on the 10th August and this is our reception on the 11th in Beijing. The girls organised everything. From left; Meixin's parents, her sister and boyfriend Bin. Bin toasts the parents watched by youngest daughter (Meixin's sister) Kang Yingnan. This is why I want to learn more Mandarin - obviously a dirty joke and I missed it!
If we had had a formal wedding no doubt these would have been Meixin's bridesmaids. Meixin mails her visa application to the Shanghai office to come to Australia. Apparently it took four weeks by EMS Plotting her escape; Meixin in the forbidden city (ironically it's my government that is barring her way). Our last visit to Coffee Language before taking me to the airport.

In the West we wear t-shirts with characters on them we don't understand. Chinese like to wear English (or nearly English) words. Maybe "juicy" as in ripe fruit?
