| Preparing
for the opening: My friend Angel (Liao Yun) is from Hunnan - so was
Chairman Mao. So Liao Yun is excited about a new restaurant serving
Hunnan cuisine. |
The
floral display is tradition for opening any new business. The name
of the restaurant is also the name of Mao's favorite dish. The dude
who looks like a cop parks cars. |
Dedicated
to Mao (see bust), the restaurant is decorated with revolutionary
posters and examples of his unique calligraphy. |
From
across the street, outside the hospital for foreigners wit the smelly
toilet I await the hordes. |
| Unfortunately
the hordes never really came and a year later the restaurant had changed
hands. A shame for such a bold venture. |
Meixin
is half asleep because she has just worked a 12 hour, allnight shift
- very common for hotel industry workers. |
But
the very hot Hunnan food revives her (okay this is another day - and
I think she is telling the waitress a joke). |
My
favorite piece of China poses with revolutionary posters. The new
owner dumped the Maoist decor. |
