Innocence
Betrayed II
20 X 24 inch silver gelatin print.
Now what on Earth is this
about! I hear your cry. Well, this is Hannah and her man Matthew, and
even her baby Kaya just out of sight. It was never meant to be serious
- even before the part when Hannah couldn't stop laughing. I borrowed
a quote from an age when nudity was okay as long as it had a classical
or didactic theme. Then I put it in a context borrowed from Balthus
(who's elegant, mysterious eroticism really appeals to me).
I wasn't happy with the
first prints because of surplus extraneous elements that didn't work.
For instance there is a picture behind Hannah which is a conceptual
piece of mine on the "classic pose". Behind Matthew is the famous image
"Blown Away" which the movie Heathers turned into a reference
to oral sex. Then there is the empty chair in the background for the
absent audience... let's face it folks, I was trying to do too much.
I like the simplified, high-contrast print. What do you think?
