Smart photographers work
out a formula for lighting and stick to it. Me, I can't resist fiddling.
The original plan was the active figure softened by a fairly transparent
cloth and frozen mid stride by the flash. But I wasn't sure how it would
look. I wanted something heroic and fairly timeless. I decided to gamble
on the flood already in place above the model and still getting enough
shutter speed to stop movement. The result is one of Chelsea's favorites
of my images and in all humility I must say it reminds me a little of
the political work of one of my heroes - Tina Modotti.
