Michelle

20 X 24 inch silver gelatin print.

West Hobart 1995

Michelle was the most pregnant lady I have ever seen. I imagine that on that stinking hot day in March the one thought uppermost in her mind was 'when is this pregnancy going to end?' (it did - quite safely - about a fortnight later). However, being paid to take off her clothes and cavort about a suburban backyard in the summer heat seemed to strike her as a good deal. She is a very sweet-natured lady who I think will make a great mother. I wanted to use the unique light of the glaring sun and also to show the pregnant body to have a natural symmetry rather than as a distortion of the "normal" female body shape. I don't know if it is an appropriate image but I did keep thinking of ripe fruit.
