Most mothers look at this image and say "all little boys do that" but at the time Diane was a breast-feeding single mum (as well as one of my regular models) which seemed to emphasise the normally intense relationship between a mother and a small male child. It is really rather beautiful and it makes me wonder at what point in male development this influence is lost and self-destructive machismo takes over.
