Balinese Masks

20 X 24 inch silver gelatin print, selenium toned.

Crabtree 1989

This is Anthea and Patricia, two very wicked ladies who used to live close to me in an Indonesian-style house. They were enormous fun to photograph and I hope they are still out there somewhere creating havoc. I have seldom used masks because I don't believe that they make people behave strangely (as is often claimed) and the individuality of the model has always been important... but when they produced these amazing creations I couldn't resist.
