Feral was the relatively new student magazine of the TCAE Student Association on Mt Nelson and in those days the Editor was a professional position, and student magazines saw themselves as THE alternative media in dealing with social issues and the environment.

1990: Became editor of University of Tasmanian Computing Centre Magazine Campus Computing which became Computing and Communications, Utas and finally INFO when it became the quarterly for the Division of Information Services in 1996.

1991-3: Appointed first professional editor of the newly incorporated Press Press Publications Inc. (wound up October 1993).

1994: Appointed temporary part-time computer consultant to Information Technology Services (formerly the Computing Centre) in September. Re-appointed editor of Utas in December - Utas now being the magazine of Information Services (ITS) combining Information Technology Services and the Library. Began producing Utas in hypertext on the World Wide Web as well as paper version.

1995: In March I created a virtual gallery of my photography on World Wide Web. By the end of June it had become so popular that I was asked to remove it from the University of Tasmania server where it was dominating traffic. I was offered an alternate site in the US by PigWeb (Promotional Interactive Gallery) in mid July. I also made my first overseas sales of prints in June. Australian web author/designer Guy Morton offered to design a web site for me on his web server imalchemy.com.au.

On June 6th I was permanently appointed as Computer Consultant level 4 to Information Technology Services (ITS). On the 1st December 1996 I was promoted to level 5.

1996: Began planning my first book of my photography in January to be based on my web site and hopefully exploiting some of it's popularity. I produced all 62 of the duotoned images in Photoshop on my home computer. Unfortunately it was to take until November to get the book released. I raised $2500 in advanced subscriptions from the USA, UK and Europe.

In August my old (free) website at Pigweb.com finally disappeared to be replaced by a new free Australian site when Totalnet invited me (courtesy of Guy Morton) to join them to draw traffic to their site: (http://www.totalnet.com.au/clients/Tony.Ryan/).

Admitted to the Australian Photographic Society in Tasmania but did not renew my membership as the rest of the local membership was only interested in landscape.

1997: My web site was moved to the imalchemy.com address in the US on the 21 of March when Guy left Totalnet. The new server space was provided by Guy Morton and is the first time I paid rent for webspace. I began building up an audience for the new site, having lost many of my former visitors through the frequent changes.

1998: Approached by US (Denver) printers Blue Line Graphics proposing to publish a new book of my photography and distribute it in the US. Opened a second web site on the Tasmanian web server tassie.net.au to supplement the Imalchemy site which is situated in the US. What appeared to be an elaborate hoax by Blueline dragged on for almost a year. As far as I could tell no fundraising exhibition to finance the book happened and I lost 24 full size prints.

2000: First overseas visit - to San Francisco to exhibit at two venues organised by Frank Moore's LUVER organisation. Sold enough to pay for the trip. Bought the domain name "www.beauty-reality.com".

2001: Consolidated my two sites into one on tassie.net.au. Returned to San Francisco for a total of four shows.
